This is Manifesta

Manifesta is a salon... and so much more. Born from a vision of three stylists, we provide our guests with beautifully crafted hairstyles, environmentally sustainable products, and socially responsible practices in a fun and inviting setting. Here at Manifesta, we aim to return to an older model of a hair salon where members of the community can meet, interact, and share important ideas. As a value driven company, our belief is that what is good for the community is also good for business, so that through high standards and well thought-out actions, we can achieve success for both.

Manifesta also has a partnership program, 'Festa, which strengthens our ties to the community, nurtures other businesses and causes we believe in, and provides unique, local goods and services to our guests. Through 'Festa, we showcase a rotating array of local craft goods in kiosks, located in our shop and available online. We will occasionally host special services, such as chair massage or natural nails, on a rotating schedule. During times when Manifesta is closed for hair, ‘Festa hosts events and classes involving a variety of activities, such as yoga, pilates, hands-on demonstrations, lectures, parties, non-profit fundraisers and much more. Follow our Blog, Twitter and Facebook pages to stay updated on new participators of ‘Festa, as well as changes in products and services at the salon.

We believe that Manifesta represents a new way of doing business, centered around our values of craftsmanship, consideration and reciprocity. Whether you’re our client, staff, distributor, or neighbor, we consider everyone who comes through our doors to be community partners.

The Team

Lindsay headshot

Lindsay Barnhardt

“You are you. Now isn’t that pleasant?”

Lindsay entered the hair & beauty industry in a roundabout way and was immediately drawn to salon culture - the seamless blend of a casual and professional atmosphere, the energy of a busy day, and most of all, the connections that form there. As a stylist, she wants to know what her clients like about both their hair and themselves, so that she may work with them to make those features shine. She enjoys both cut and color, and specializes in styles that wear easily and feel like an extension of your inner self. As a founder, Lindsay strives to make Manifesta a place that fosters stylists’ and clients’ individuality and achieves community goals.

KC headshot

K.C. Lutes

KC is a career hairstylist of 8 years, but has been an intuitive hair artist for as long as she can remember. With a background in social work before attending Cinta Aveda cosmetology school in SF, KC is a great listener and a creative thinker.

She enjoys connecting with her clients just as much as executing a great hair cut! This makes KC versatile, and able to work with anyone, regardless of hair type. KC's passions: men's and short women's cuts, androgyny, asymmetry, and artful fashion color techniques.

Mireya headshot

Mireya Albarran

Mireya's journey as a hairstylist began earlier than most, since she embarked in her cosmetology career while still in high school. With more than 17 years in the industry, and a zen like approach to detail and style, Mireya is most excited about customizing beautiful hair cuts and color.

What deeply inspires Mireya is creating authentic communication with clients and crafting a truly pleasurable and transformative experience while in her chair. As one of the founders, Mireya's focus is on the intricacies of fine craftsmanship and continued skill development.

Jasmine headshot

Jasmine Jessica Nagra

Jasmine grew up in the East Bay area and is no stranger to Oakland. When working with her, you will get some of that Oakland spice along with a deep understanding of hair styles and trends.

She attended the Cinta Aveda Institute in San Francisco and studied the Aveda method of cut, color and style. She has six years of experience and particularly loves doing color and fabulous blow-dries.

Amy headshot

Amy Walkup

Amy first moved to Oakland to earn an MFA in art. She worked for 12 years as an art educator-sculpting art and minds before beginning her second career as a hair stylist by attending the Cinta Aveda Institute in San Francisco six years ago.

It was through her experiences as an artist and teacher that she found 2 essential callings: the need to do hands-on creative work with excellence and the need to connect with people. She loves the experience of providing a nurturing environment where people feel listened to, cared for and even transformed. During that process, she is also changed and is grateful to do something that brings her such joy. She loves doing cuts, colors and particularly formal styling. For her, the reward of doing hair is that she gets to help people look and feel renewed all day/every such a simple and personal way.
